Jéfe aka Johnny Chiba first-person experiential of the great
art fair that is ART BASEL, and select satellite art fairs

The Aqua hotel is 2 floors, each room housing a sweet gallery space, all opening into a breezy
courtyard. one of the nicest satellite fairs in terms of feeling good as you meander door-to-door

BALINT ZSAKO

From Budapest to Brooklyn, brilliant Balint Zsako has been on TestPress radar for years,
since his art was shown at SCOPE Miami 06. Balint also does collages and takes photograhs,
but my heart belongs to his phenomenal drawing skills, the use of color and imagination
are out of this world, and definitely draw from an otherworldly, alien landscape.
Consistently humorous, sexually deviant & highly whimsical, his work is amazing.

NATALIE MAJABA WALDBURGER

Natalie Waldburger's encaustic painting is a highly technical skill, aka
hot wax painting, involving the use of heated beeswax. she seems to enjoy
painting her beautiful caustic self, truth be known... how is the far left panel
(taken at Aqua) different from the far right panel (from blunt site)?
i don't know, but it looked ripe for a Majabanimation!

AJ OISHI

AJ's grand circular paintings are created with the eraser side of a #2 pencil.
the artist told me each circle represented a person from a specific time in her life.
I mentioned a certain gray circle must have been a nice guy.
so circular, so animated, so animoishi....ajoishi.com

JAMES BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

Brooklyn's James Ben paints everyday human interactions, applying a thick layer
of resin to his paintings that seals the image beneath the surface,
making each artwork glossy and beautifully surreal

MATS!?

Mat Sicko is just one of the great pop surrealist artists repped by
Harold Golen Gallery
(Miami FL). Other Juxtapoz/High Fructose-loving greats include
Tim Biskup, Ron English, Dalek, Liz McGrath, Mitch O'Connell, etc, the list goes on;
well worth a trip to their trippy Miami gallery and cybermiami-website.

TERRY TURRELL

Using unconventional, often recycled materials,
Terry Turrell’s sculptures stood out with
their long legs and red dots... sold!
